How Can You Keep Your Hair Healthy and Beautiful?

Many people think they’re taking the right steps to have healthy, shiny, and attractive hair — but the actual results say otherwise. Fortunately, if you find yourself in the same situation, there’s no need to worry since making your hair healthier and more beautiful is what we do at our Dominican style hair salon! Here are some steps to help you get started:

Avoid over-washing your hair

Do you shampoo every day? If you do, you’re probably lathering your locks to death. Too-frequent shampooing can strip your hair of its natural oils, which can cause your scalp to produce more oils to compensate for the resulting dryness. This can lead to a vicious cycle of too much oil production in your scalp and the need to remove this oil through aggressive shampooing.

To step out of this cycle, limit yourself to one or two shampoos per week. Over time, your scalp will adjust and you’ll find yourself with healthier and less oily hair.

Invest in the right hair care products

Different hair types have different needs. So, before shopping for shampoos, conditioners, and other items, you need to determine what your hair type is and what you should look for in the hair care products that you use.

As much as possible, use a shampoo that has  “damage repairing” effects and can provide your tresses with the right amount of proteins. You can even opt for a cleansing conditioner, which is essentially a two-in-one product that removes dirt and grease from your hair while moisturizing each strand. Cleansing conditioners are usually not enough to remove mousse and hairspray, so you have to alternate them with regular shampoos to remove product buildup from your hair.

Minimize your use of heat-styling tools

You don’t necessarily have to swear them off for the rest of your life; after all, you do need them to style your hair for special occasions. But you’ll want to avoid using flat irons, blow dryers, and curling irons on a daily basis since they can damage your hair. If you can’t avoid them, at least find ways to reduce the amount of time that your tresses are exposed to the heat. If you don’t have the time to treat yourself at our Dominican style hair salon, you can wrap your hair in a towel for 15 minutes before blow-drying it and use the lowest possible heat setting to avoid hair damage.

Get the help of the experts

Home hair care is important but, if you want to perm or color your hair, you’ll want to get the pros to do it instead of going the DIY way. By going to a salon and letting experts take over, you’ll have the assurance that your hair is properly taken care of and that you’ll achieve the desired results with minimal damage.
